Howdy Doodle

Elmhurst College Center for Professional Excellence

When it comes to helping students determine who they will be and what they will become, Elmhurst College's Center for Professional Excellence takes a sincere, hands-on approach—"Experiential Learning" is a fair shorthand description. So, given the sparse copy and the luxury of space, it made sense to play with a graphic shorthand to promote the EC Mentorship Program in print—the ubiquitous doodle. In this case, the playful, hand-drawn squiggles not only suggest the idea of personal touch, but these loose gestures symbolize the program's approach to mentoring, shadowing, and exploration. Meanwhile, the bouncy line art is a counterpoint to the more formal photo portraits. As a bonus, it's a pretty efficient way to keep production costs low.
